In the film’s most famous song, ‘Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya’, Anarkali wears a style of dress that is popular with Kathak dancers – a high-waisted kameez with a full skirt. Fabrics were rich, with silk brocades embroidered with real zari, and colours were regal and vibrant.
Footwear was ordered from Agra, crowns were made by the skilled craftsmen of Kolhapur and much of the jewellery came from the city known for its goldsmiths, Hyderabad.
